Umm.. I have no idea what connection this could have to rebooting, but
that's generally caused by "issues" with your video card rendering your
cursor. What kind of video card do you have? If it's an Nvidia, you
might try putting

    Option    "HWCursor" "true"

in the Device section for your video card in /etc/X11/XF86Config-4.

I suspect that setting is wrong, but if it is I'm sure someone will post
the correct variant of it :)

FWIW that sounds like your software is configured to use esd rather than
artsd. Running stuff with soundwrapper gets around it.
