Ok, first find the IP address of the server.  I use:
    host www.example.com

Then run whois on that address, e.g.:
    whois 1.2.3.4

And then cross your fingers.  That generally tells you which company owns
that range of IP addresses, which is about as good as you're going to get to
finding the physical location of a server.  Sometimes traceroute will be
more informative.
