I have two PCs, one on Linux Redhat 8.0 (say LinPC) and the other one on Win2k Professional (WinPC). I have Samba installed on the LinPC. However, the LinPC can see the WinPC but the WinPC cannot see the LinPC. I tested a few things on the LinPC and the results follow:

1. ifconfig reports:
inet addr: 192.168.0.1 Bcast: 192.168.0.255 Mast:255.255.255.0

2. I can ping by IP address (192.168.0.1) or by name (LinPC) without problem. Likewise for the WinPC.

3. nmblookup -B 192.168.0.1 LinPC
Result:
query LinPC on 192.168.0.1
192.168.0.1 LinPC <00>

4. nmblookup -B 192.168.0.255 WinPC
Result:
query WinPC on 192.168.0.2
192.168.0.2 WinPC <00>

5. nmblookup -B 192.168.0.255 LinPC
Result:
query LinPC on 192.168.0.1
name-query failed to find name LinPC

The #1 - #4 works but #5 does not, I guess this is the reason my WinPC cannot see the LinPC over the network. Can someone tell me how to fix this strange problem?

Thanks in advance

Sangeant
