Hi all,
I've been trying to get my external firewire hard drive (vipower VP-9059V
with self fitted Seagate ATA III 30gb drive) to operate with Mandrake 9.0.
Harddrake shows it as
Vendor: Agere Systems
Bus: PCI
Bus ID: IIc1: 5811
Locn on the bus: 0:9:0
Description: FW322 1394A PCI PHY/Link Open Host Ctrl I/f
Module:Unknown
Media Class: Serial_Firewire
--------------------------------------------
Insmod ieee1394, insmod ohci 1394 and insmod raw 1394 show "Using
/lib/modules/2.4.19-16mdk/kernel/drivers/ieee1394/ieee1394.0.gz

There is no raw1394,1394 or firewire in /dev.
I have read docs at http://www.linux1394.org/ and searched Google for
"linux firewire" and it appears that I need to create /dev/raw1394, but
when I (as root) cd to /dev and try "make dev raw1394 I get the message "No
rule to make target '/dev/raw1394'.Stop."
What am i doing wrong, if anything?
Thanks
Bill
