Any SLUG members in the US, or about to visit, that would be willing to purchase a copy of IBM ViaVoice for Linux for me, if I send you the money? (US$39.95, plus shipping cost on top.)
IBM sells ViaVoice, their speech recognition system, for Mac and Windows. They also have a Linux version (much cheaper!), but which they only sell via local distributors. Like many big companies, they're not flexible enough to sell products except through their regular channels. Unfortunately for anyone wanting to buy Linux ViaVoice in Australia, this means you can't buy it. You can see some information on it on the web: http://www-132.ibm.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CategoryDisplay?categoryId=2052505&cntrfnbr=1&storeId=1&catalogId=-840&langId=-1 but what you find implicitly if you actually try to purchase it online, is that you can only enter a US state for the shipping address. On an older page which no longer exists on the IBM site, (defunct: http://www-3.ibm.com/software/speech/linux/dictation.html), it used to explicitly state that they would only ship to addresses in the US and Canada. luke (We want to use the software to catalogue 14,000 78 records we just saved from going to the tip, which we believe probably have historical value if the deceased owner's claims were correct.) -- SLUG - Sydney Linux User's Group - http://slug.org.au/ More Info: http://lists.slug.org.au/listinfo/slug
