Hey gang,
Who will be winging their way to Perth for linux.conf.au? There seem to be a
lot of people on Virgin's 2pm Sunday flight... Be afraid. ;-)
Some cool somewhat-SLUG-related stuff ('cos all the talks are going to rock
out, but some of these are pretty relevant to us) that I would recommend for
SLUGgers who are going:
- Conrad's lengthy Sweep tutorials!
- Malcolm's auto* tutorials! ... unfortunately, these two clash :-(
but Conrad is doing a talk on Sweep too!
- Wayne Piekarski's wearable computing talk. These always rock. Back in
2001, his COTS-parts wearable computer had DOOM inside... At one stage
during the conference, he let me try it on and mentioned that the DOOM
level was "a map of the university". So, off I walked... straight into a
wall... "The, ah, university of South Australia, that is..." Oops. ;-)
- Conrad's talk on Sweep!
- The Linux Australia AGM -> LA is baaaa-aaaaack!
- Prime number fans will enjoy the thrill, romance and action of the LCA
keysigning!
- The conference dinner -> hope you've already booked! These are always
heaps of fun. (oath!)
- Martin Pool's talk on distcc, a distributed C compiler. This is a very
cool project. Someone has to go to that and tell me how cool it was
because...
- Jeff Waugh's talk on GNOME might be a reasonable time to catch up on
your email via the wireless network available to conference attendees!
- Malcolm is also doing a talk on "Linux at the little end of the world".
- If you're staying on for Australia Day, there will be some cool
fireworks and parties going on.
In other news:
- Various SLUG dudes (Jan, Gus, Pipka, myself) will be roaming the
conference with our new digital video camera! Hopefully we'll bring back
some entertaining crazy stuff to play at the meeting!
- We're going to cover the conference during most of January's meeting, so
if you can't go, there will be lots of stories and photos and things.
- Plus, Gus will be presenting his tithe-talk for winning the Sun Regional
Delegate Programme!
Rock on, and I will see you there! :-)
- Jeff

I wonder how many bugs have gone unfixed due to misspellings of "FIXME".
