After switching from the Blackdown J2RE1.3 to the Blackdown J2RE1.4 and from Mozilla 1.1 to Mozilla 1.2.1, the new (and hopefully not some silly mistake) St George Internet banking applet now works - or at least, I can view account details and transfer money.
