[SLUG] Iprimus dial up

I am running RedHat 8.0 on a IBM Thinkpad R31

I am trying to get it to dial Iprimus without success.  By setting pppd into debug mode I have ascertained that wvdial seems to call pppd correctly but this then exits after 40 sec or so with "LCP: timeout sending Config-Requests".

I have tried google and the SLUG message archive but the SLUG site seems to be down.

Any suggestions about what to try next?
