configuring BIND is not for the faint-hearted. Understanding and correctly 
applying the principals of DNS is even a more daunting task. I 
recommend you not try but use a distribution that preconfigures what you 
require without a detailed knowledge of BIND and DNS.

If you install SME server on the server machine it will provide DNS 
services for local machines in secure fashion and with little effort. It 
has an easy web manager interface if you need to manually add local host 
machines too. SME is based on Redhat.

There are other distributions that perform these tasks (declaration of
interest: I sell SME commerically but there is a GPL version) but for ease
of installation SME is a cracker server distribution, includes stateful
firewalling and all normal and expected server functions including
file/print sharing, transparent web proxy/cache, VPN access etc. Full
