Are you referring to when you log into Gnome? or KDE? Gnome: You need to change your session so that gpilotd doesn't start up. For Gnome2, go to the Gnome menu and find applications > desktop prefrences > advanced > sessions and remove gpilotd from the list of applications attached to the session.
