No, all RAID does is provide disk redundancy whether through disk mirroring or disk spanning volumes. The acronym stands for "Redundant array of inexpensive disks". Whatever RAID you choose is some form of disk redundancy. Anyway the point is that RAID in any shape or form is not "backup". This is a common misconception that's worth taking time to dispell.
