where coding and common sense part ways...

                        ============================
                        CodeFest: Xscreensaver Style
                        ============================

SLUG and COMPSOC are proud to announce the latest CodeFest, this time with a
twist of Xscreensaver! Of course, you can code whatever you want at our
CodeFests, but this time, we have INFAMOUS PEOPLE and COOL STUFF already
primed for the hacking!

Jamie "Jaq" Wilkinson & Andrew "spiv" Bennetts

Authors of glsnake, an Xscreensaver hack and (interactive!) executive
stress toy. If we're exceedingly lucky, the mysterious third author
(Peter Aylett) will also attend. Jaq and spiv will provide insight into
OpenGL hacking with X, getting your pretty models on the screen with
Xscreensaver, and their favourite toys as children.

  Conrad "K" Parker

K really wanted to be a DJ. But he turned out to be a much better coder,
and has hacked up some Seriously Important DJ software -> and not just
sweep! He also wrote the mesmerising SpeedMine and SpeedWorm hacks,
crucial visuals for any Serious DJ. K will talk at length about hacking
up 'cool stuff in X', and will hopefully regale us with stories of pain
and woe with the ICCCM. They're always fun.

  Angus "gus" Lees

Gus, infamously known as the only man capable of actually *being* Gus,
will be mocking us all from afar (he has to take care of his girls that
weekend), writing his latest INSANE PERL HACK -> a Perl/Tk Xscreensaver
using Google for random visual inspiration. There's bad, mad, and then
    there's: Our Gus.

  Carsten "the rasterman" Haitzler

Raster will be rabbiting on. Specifically, he will be rabbiting on about
X, asynchronous programming and efficiency, and evas (his sweet canvas).
If you are lucky, he may also rabbit on about Free Software luminaries
    who smell like gherkins.

The shallow and meaningless objective of the CodeFest is to fatten up jwz's
inbox with KICKARSE Xscreensavers, written by SLUG and COMPSOC dudes. We
might even have prizes for a) inclusion into the Xscreensaver distro and b)
the most subtle or funny SLUG/COMPSOC-promoting easter eggs. (jwz is the
maintainer of Xscreensaver -> he has been duped into including code authored
by SLUG members before, let's do it again!)

The bit you want to print out and stick to your forehead:

  Where: CSE @ UNSW
The Computing Science & Engineering seminar room at the University
of New South Wales in Kensington. The building you are looking for
is "K17", at the bottom-centre of the following map:

           http://www.cse.unsw.edu.au/school/ccday/tour1/VMap.html

   When: Saturday, February 22nd, 2003
From 2pm until an unspecified time (which may have something to do
with security kicking us out before students arrive)

Bring: You'll need a laptop or otherwise portable computer, munchies and
energy drinks, some crazy-crack ideas for screensavers, and a
         sponge-like brain for the learning!

Why: "codito, ergo sum - i code, therefore i am"

Xscreensaver saves!
