I don't know too much about redhat, but I think you are looking for:

uname -a

you probably want to install the i686 packages.... depending on your system
specs..
(but as you are running RH8 i am assuming you have a quick machine... ;)
anyway, uname -a will let you know what arch it is.     

from memory, noarch is of no importance.
