I have been working at a client's building for the last week trying to
get NFS and NIS running. I have searched all books available to me,
consulted past messages (on SLUG), reinstalled Redhat 8 from scratch,
searched every facet of the web I could find. But still cannot come up
with any kind of fix to get either to work.

I must explain the problems in depth a bit before anything, first NFS. I
believe the server itself is fine, considering a solaris system can
mount all the directories with no problems. However, as soon as I go to
a client computer (which is running AIX with a version that I don't know
offhand) I cannot mount any top level directories (ie /DATA ) but can
mount subdirectories (ie /DATA/TRANSFER) I have set the AIX ports to
force them to use the reserved ports for nfs (by adding " nfso -o
nfs_use_reserved_ports=1 " to /etc/rc.tcpip ) but this still does not
work.

Second, NIS, I have found even less on this so I'm probably open to any
suggestions. I believe I have all the files configured, but I could be
missing some.

Any help provided will be appreciated greatly.
