Hi,
I bought a PC late last year and installed RH7.3 on it. I recently
upgraded to 8.0 because of a range of extremely nasty issues. Most seem
to revolve around some hardware conflict and X11. I regularly take
photos with a digital camera and use Gimp to process them. Under 7.3 I
would frequently get a complete system lock-up (i.e cant even ping the
machine from another, no interaction with mouse or keyboard), the only
thing I can do is to reboot. I would also get random log-outs for no
apparent reason.

After upgrading to 8.0 this got worse. After a lock-up, I would get the
same screen back after a reboot as was showing when I got the lock-up.
Again, this seems to be related to use of the Gimp.

I have run lspci (below) -

[00]-+-00.0 Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] 650 Host
+-01.0-[01]----00.0 Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS]: Unknown
device 6325
+-02.0 Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] SiS961 [MuTIOL Media IO]
+-02.2 Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] 7001
+-02.3 Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] 7001
+-02.5 Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] 5513 [IDE]
+-02.7 Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] SiS7012 PCI Audio
Accelerator
\-0f.0 Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL-8139/8139C/8139C+

I'm keen to get any clues on hoe to diagnose the problem and work toward
some form of resolution. All ideas appreciated.
Barry
