I believe you can configure a system where a user can login without a password, and if there is no inital password, it will prompt you for an initial password.

when reading the man pages for shadow/passwd/crypt (3,5) you cannot find an explanation of the "!!" in the password field of the shadow file. I know what "*" means, but I cannot find "!!".
So, what does it mean?
