Hmm. Well, I don't know if Windows XP breaks stuff with Linux (Samba) specifically. There has been a history of the SMB protocol changing between Windows versions. I would be entirely unsurprised if this were the case if you were running with something as old as redhat 6.0. Re Internet access: That's normal - the Internet operates on TCP/IP, which is not a Microsoft owned protocol. As such anything should be able to talk to it. As for a solution - I'd suggest upgrading your esmith system, or perhaps try Samba from another, newer Linux box, if you have one of course (by that I mean "newer Linux", not "newer box"). If it turns out that Redhat 9.0 can give you samba love, then you'll know what to do.
