Do you have the OpenGL screensavers on your system? If your xscreensaver is
set up to choose random screensavers every few minutes, and your X server
dies at the thought of OpenGL, perhaps that's the problem. It's happened to
me before, and took a fair amount of foxing around to find it. :-)
