You see... anyone can flame. It's fun and gets the adrenalin up. A geeks
version of going outside and chasing cars, maybe? What does axel grease
taste like exactly? May I suggest that, in the future, that you pull your
head in?
Now, all up though, I posted the initial link (late at night) just as
a heads up as to the kind of stuff Microsoft is trying to chuck wrt
Linux. I never saw it mentioned anywhere before (/., Core, LWN, etc)
so I thought it might be interesting to others. I got a giggle out of
it on a few levels, one of which is that this is a nice indication of
just how successful Linux has become so far and how successful it can
be if things go well.
As for the FUD? Well, obviously it's part and parcel and something
that one should verymuch keep in mind. Both from MS advocates AND
OS/Linux/BSD/ Mac/etc. I have come to believe that neither 'side'
(if you could call it that - OS/etc advocates are really a loosely
strung collection of individuals who don't coordinate at all (or rarely)
in the great scheme of things). As far as computers go, it's stupidly
easy to spread FUD. I believe that major contributor to this is a. the
believe that you really should know absolutely nothing about them and
b. the amount of effort going into keeping people pleasantly ignorant
of them. This doesn't mean that you should know everything about them,
but it DOES get rather annoying when someone, for example, asks you how
many MB a video card has in order to determine its speed...
Such people, unless they clue in, will never be resistant to IT industry
FUD.
