Has this started happening recently or is it an ongoing problem? In any
case I don't know for sure what's happening. Could be hardware, could be
your machine getting too hot for some reason. Could be ACPI or APIC (I
can't remember which does what) breaking interrupts.

If I were you I'd start by upgrading X and your kernel. Perhaps an
upgrade to mandrake 9.1?
