Note that trying to "re-use" your home directories can break things,
particular where inappropriate config settings are stored in files like
.bashrc 

To be fair on a distribution, you should backup your home directories
and then move them out of the way when you do the distro install and
create users. This way you know all the config files have been created
from the correct skel files, etc. 

If something doesn't work, you then know it is the distros fault and not
some strange file format clash caused by stale files in the users home
directory.
