I posted a message a couple of weeks ago about sluggish HD performance on a new computer - it is a 3ghz P4, Gigabyte MB, 1gb ram and 2 brand new 80gb Seagate 7200rpm drives.
Even with this setup I am still getting sluggish performance, when I do a copy I am getting a burst of 45meg/second then it slowly dwindles down to around 20meg/second average but will jump up and down between 3.5meg/second and 20meg/second until the end of the copy.
