thanks for compiler explanation.

as for dos2nixing binary files... yes, I didn't think it was such a good idea
either.. (and, I wasn't willing to run nix2dos to see if that will fix it... ;)>

to make it worse.... I didn't note what directory I was in before I closed
the window...

I guess I should look at the files where my 'crt1' files are, as a starting point.

hmmm, would dos2nix'ing binary files alter date/time stamp ?
