In my experience, and that's a lot, RedHat 9 under the hood is pretty
close to RedHat 7.3. You can quite often grab source RPM's from RedHat 9
and compile them to run on 7.3 (as I've done for some) although you can
get in a bit of a dependency mess sometimes. On RH9 sendmail's done in a
peculiar client-server way which caught me. Also if you should watch out
for /etc/sysconfig/networking/ directory, this is where 'profiles' of
network setups are stored and I frequently delete the crap it puts in
there when I want to hand-code the
/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-xxx files. wu-ftpd is replaced with
vsftp, there's a bunch of redhat-config-xxxx scripts which is nice. Most
of the text configs are still valid, vi is my main config tool.
