Hi Sluggers,

As some of you may or may not know Computerbnk Sydney has been formed to
handle the day-to-day running of Computerbank projects in the Sydney
Region so to that end we're having a Hardware Day/membership drive/public
meeting this weekend.
Date: Sunday 21st September 2003
Location: Blacktown North Public School (BNPS)
Bessemer Street Blacktown (Just off Sunnyholt Road)
Meet in the "bottom" carpark in Bessemer Street.
Time: 10am (although there will probably be people there a little
earlier setting things up)
Blactown station is down Sunnyholt Road from the school it's a bit of a
walk although apparently there are busses (not sure how regualrly on
sundays) so if you turn up at blacktown station we'll have a shuttle
service of sorts running between the station and the school. if you turn
up at the station and need a lift call 0410526200 and I'll organise to get
someone down there to pick you up.
Also being Sunday there is often trackwork on the rail system which causes
havoc with trains etc. Don't let that stop you. Once again 0410526200 and
we'll see if we can solve your problems. That's what they pay me the big
bucks for.
So come along and get an idea of what Computerbank does and how you can
help out if your interested.
SO HOW CAN YOU HELP?

Hacker Gods: Please come along and wow us with your l337 skillz ;-). Help
pass this knowledge onto others grasshopper.
Linux Regulars: Wanna play with some different architechtures?? Have YOU
used all 11 archs that Debian supports? Hell, have you used Debian. Well
if the answer is no or you have an interest in expanding your linux
knowledge in any way in a friendly, practical setting come along.
Linux Newbies: Wanna learn from the Hacker Gods and Regulars? wanna see
them in action, maybe even get a few autographs?? ;-) Then be there. Even
if you're not interested in that we really need a perspective from people
who are new to linux as they are our core "audience" the majority of
people we are giving our machines to will be like you. So help us out come
along and tell us how we're going. I can almost gaurentee in the process
you'll learn plenty about Linux
Linux Widows: Are you a linux widow? Are you married to/attached
to/seeing a linux widow. Well guess what, finally there's a linux activity
you can bring them/come along to and they/you can have some fun and feel
useful and part of the group as well. There are MANY things in teh
organisation to be done that don't require any real linux or computing
knowledge. And just like documentation it's stuff like that that the
hacker gods and their cohorts never seem to want to (or get the time to)
do.
Linux Females: Please no comments about geeks trolling for "chicks". We've
had at least a couple of instances where our recipients were places where
it would be emminently preferable to have a female presence (refuges for
abused women and the like) and at the moment the number of females
involved in the project whilst OK in the regional areas is sorely lacking
in sydney.
Everyone Else: You don't even need to attend to help out. Being a
volunteer organisation one of our biggest restraints is time. Time for
things like testing the absolute myriad of linux programs and how they run
on various hardware. We install in a number of schools, going through and
working out what programs are acceptable for students at different levels,
high-school, primary etc. Don't feel you need to spend your entire weekend
out playing with linux hardware to help us. Some private testing and then
an email with details will be much appreciated.
Do you have a car? Do you live in sydney? do you have a spare hour or so a
week and some spare space somewhere in your house? Then you can help too.
One of our main concerns at the moment is picking up hardware that is
donated to us, this is all over Sydney and to have a number of people in
various areas of sydney who are willing to either go out and pick stuff up
and various times or even have stuff dropped off at their place would be
invaluable.
So the question isn't "How can I help you out I don't think I have
anything to offer" the question is DO YOU WANT TO. If you want to help
we'll find a way for you to help that will fit in with your available time
and circumstances.
If you have any questions whatsoever please feel free to ring me on
0410526200 or email me at [EMAIL PROTECTED] And if you want to help out
but can't make it on the weekend then do the same.
Thanks for your time everyone and I hope to see plenty of people there on
Sunday.
