Hi Slugs,

Just looking for advice on the following...

Currently I have a permanent 56k modem with Telstra and permanent IP addresses running all Linux DNS, Firewall, email and web.
I am looking at getting ADSL with a DHCP address and keeping the permanent modem setup too. (it cost $500 to setup initially so it's probably worth while keeping) After ringing around for pricing some ISP's don't mind me using a server with unlimited traffic coming in and out on the ADSL side. sweet! I'd like to put the web, firewall, email on the ADSL with the permanent modem IP suppling the DNS.

Slug archives recommend that while using an ADSL for a web server to use Dynamic DNS with an external hosting company. However it seems that if you have your own domain name(s) then you have to pay for it. I'd rather do it myself if possible.

So in short I'd like to use my own permanent DNS server to redirect to my faster DHCP'd web server. Does this make sense? How to do it with Linux?
Any other brilliant ideas on setting this up welcome. Shameless plugs for good ADSL providers have already been posted on the SLUG list so could be mailed to me privately.

Thanks
Ben
