Dear SLUG,

I am writing to inform you that the current SLUG President Jeff Waugh,
and Vice President Tony Green have resigned from the SLUG committee.
Their reasons for doing so are best explained in their own words from
their joint letter of resignation:

The remaining SLUG committee members would like to express our thanks
for the contributions which both Jeff and Tony have made, and our
regrets at their departure. Jeff and Tony have both stated their
continued interest in supporting SLUG from outside the committee, and we
look forward to that.

After consideration of the SLUG constitution[1] and consultation amongst
the committee, we have decided upon the following course of action:
 - Jan Schmidt will step in as President;
 - Peter Hardy will tackle Vice President;
 - the rest of the committee (Mary Gardiner, Jamie Wilkinson, Jaime
Hemmett) will remain in their present roles; and
 - we will ask the SLUG membership to elect 2 more committee members to
serve until the AGM in March, when as always, the full committee
   election will take place.

We invite people to nominate to fill the 2 vacant General Committee
positions. An election for these positions will be held at the SLUG
monthly meeting on Friday 26th September, 2003.

Hopefully these changes will ensure a smooth transition and the
continued functioning of SLUG in supporting the local Sydney Linux
community.

----

Summary of election procedure:

 - Please send nominations to [EMAIL PROTECTED] or nominate the candidate
at the meeting on Friday. Check with them first to make sure they
are willing to be on SLUG committee.

 - All candidates must be financial members of SLUG for 2003 by the time
   of the election.

 - All people voting in the election must be financial members of SLUG
at the time of the election. Please bring your membership card along.

 - If two or less than two nominations are made and accepted, the
   nominees will be declared elected.

 - If more than two nominations are made and accepted, the election will
be conducted via a show of hands at the next SLUG meeting: Friday
26th September, 2003, at 7pm, with each financial member in
   attendence getting two votes.

You can become a financial member on the night by paying Jamie Wilkinson
the membership fee. Since this meeting falls six months after the AGM,
you will only need to pay half a year's membership fee -- $12.50.
