I need some help in doing a partial reinstall from CD1 onto a Ti PowerBook that has a non bootable kernel. The rest of the system is fine, the boot loader is fine - its just that the kernel (a benh kernel) will not boot anymore. If there is anyone coming Fri night to slug that can spare some time before the meeting (hell we dont want to miss the x-box talk) and who is good at debina installs I could do with some help.
Basically I have done full installs before only when there is nothing on the disk. This time I want the system left untouched and just get the debian installer to put on an "install24" kernel i.e. a 2.4 series and the modules that it needs etc but I dont want the rest of the system installed.
The system was stuffed by the OSX 10.2.8 patch from Apple which got pulled by apple just the next day - after it stuffed my system and lots of other apple users too. A kernel that was fine does not boot after the apple upgrade. I have been making some posts over the last few days to the debian powerpc list to try and work out how I can get it to boot but i havent had any luck. I dont want to do a complte new install of my Linux.
PS. I can boot from CD1 and mount my Linux partition and its all there just that a kernel boot fails with a 'openpic exit' error and shuts down the laptop within seconds of the kernel loading.
I have reset the nvrams and reloaded the bootloader. Done an fsck of the disk and a few other things that ppc users suggested.
Let me know if anyone is around uni maybe at 5.00 onwards.
