For the diodes above you should probably use a couple of power diodes in
parrallel. The resistor depends on the charge current you want. You could
make it 2 resistors like this:-
GND-----+----Battery----|<----/\/\/\/---+---\/\/\/\----+--regulator
| |
----------->|--------------------
Zenner (or a series of them) to limit voltage to say 30V
Maybe add a fuse in series with the battery to prevent overcharging
current if the zenner's blow or the PC short circuits.
