Hello everyone,

I have strange dialup internet problem. I run Debian unstable, I use
wvdial, and my main browser is Firbird but I also use Dillo. I use a
normal 56k external modem. I keep my computer running all the time and
use wvdial to connect to the net when I need to.

The problem is that occasionally, maybe every 5th or 6th time that I
connect, wvdial runs perfectly and establishes a connection to my ISP
(Bigpond), but my browser won't access any sites. Dillo tells me
"unable to resolve...", Firebird tells me "Trying to connect to..."

I've tried turning my modem on and off, restarting wvdial, restarting
the browsers, restarting X, even logging out completely and logging in
again. The ONLY thing that solves the problem is to reboot.

Is there a service or daemon that I can stop and restart to avoid
rebooting? Here's the output of 'ps aux' after I've failed to connect,
and I've shut down my browsers and wvdial:

Suggestions gratefully recieved, but I won't be able to test them until
the problem reccurs. Also, as you can tell, I'm not a technical user.
