I found this on the swan site, I guess many other sites have this
disclaimer, but I haven't really read them. I feel some of these points
really have some baring the FUBAR we had. At least if people have some
knowledge behind the list we may be lucky enuf not the revisit past
stories. :)

Why don't you restrict the mailing lists to reduce spam?
As a matter of policy, some of our mailing lists need to be open to
non-subscribers. Project management feel strongly that maintaining this
openness is more important than blocking spam.

      * Users should be able to get help or report bugs without
        subscribing.
      * Even a user who is subscribed may not have access to his or her
        subscribed account when he or she needs help, miles from home
        base in the middle of setting up a client's gateway.
