Dia works well for windows people as it's pretty simple and runs under both 'nix and windows.
There's also xfig which is more powerful, but more difficult to master. I haven't found anything that is as good as Visio, but between those two and occasionally gimp, you should be able to draw just about any diagram you need. -Piers.
