Point your browser at http://localhost:631/ and check out the printer's 
status, it usually gives a good indication as to what it thinks is wrong. 
If it asks you to login, root & root's password will do. From here you can 
also check what jobs are queued up. I found that whenever a printer goes 
offline CUPS detects this but doesen't seem to retry in any hurry. Maybe 
somebody's gotten around this? Therefore 'Stop' and 'Start' printer seems 
to get it going.
