(picked up from the unix tips mailling list http://www.ugu.com/sui/ugu/show?tip.subscribe ) I'm not sure of all the shells which support it, but it is a real help for those of use with errant fingers. eg: >echo helol helol >^ol^lo^ echo hello hello It seems to work in bash without the trailing caret, YMMV.
