Thanks to Michael and David for replies. Unfortunately, Lorma Linux 4 (Fedora Core 1) is a one CD desktop distro with lots of goodies such as decss, realplayer etc included, but naturally omits many other standard items due to size limitations, one omission being fdisk.
Clearly I was not thinking too well when I posted the help message, as I have since solved the problem by booting Morhix live cd and checking its fstab. the mount point is /dev/hda3 - seems funny, but obviously is correct as it works. mount point /dev/hda1 is ist primary partition, /dev/hda5 is the extended partition, /dev/hda6 is the first linux partition within the extended partition, /dev/hda7 is the (swap) is the 2nd linux partition within the extended partition, and the "problem partition is /dev/hda3, the 2nd primary partition, so linux sees the partitions as hda1, hda5 (treated as hda2) and hda3). thanks -- SLUG - Sydney Linux User's Group Mailing List - http://slug.org.au/ Subscription info and FAQs: http://slug.org.au/faq/mailinglists.html
