LVM even lets you snapshot your disks, if you have some unallocated
space in which to write to whilst the snapshot exists:

1) Snapshot the logical volume
2) Dump from the snapshot volume
3) Unsnapshot and LVM will replay into your volumes and no-one will
notice a thing.
