Anyone here listen to JJJ.
Ronan Sharkey just presented a very poorly researched piece on MyDoom
on Steve Cananee's new current affairs show, Hack.
Tripple J can be easily contacted ... ask for a public appology etc.
They talked to some half-baked 'virus expert' who may or may not
have had their piece edited so that they appeared to be saying that
it was 'most definately' a 'Linux lover' who wrote MyDoom.
Basically painted the community and Linux in a fairly bad light
(must all be anti-social, computer nerd hackers).
They spoke about SCO like their claims were proven.
(again lack of research ..).
Interested in other comments if anyone else heard it.
(Also if anyone happens to have either Steve or Ronan's email addresses
it'd be good to post a well refuted response.)

Here is what I sent to ABC (scews the referance to MLUG) - send through
http://www.abc.net.au/contact/ and fill in the form correctly.... the
title of my peice (subject) was Linux Libel, I thought it had a nice
ring to it
Hello.
I am the Mailinglist Admin of the Melbourne Linux User Group -
unfortunatly I missed the eppisode of Hack which went into details about
the myDOOM virus, but many of the members of my list have emailed me
about it, and none of it was good.
The light in which Linux users was painted was attrocious considering we
are an up and comming community and Operating System.
Firstly - there is NO proof that myDoom is created by a linux user -
believe it or not, myDoom has been effecting Linux servers - the ammount
of mail comming through from Windows users to lazy to update their virus
scanners is apalling.
Secondly - the mass generalisation of Linux users is totaly un called
for - some of us lead perfectly normal lives, some don't - but then it
is the same with Windows users - Should I follow in the generalisation
scheme of things, I will now tell you who wrote myDOOM: a Windows user,
arround the age of 30, living in his mothers house, on a diet of coke
and pizza, loves star treck and is living in America with a dot matrix
printer on his desk - does that mean I am correct? No. Same thing with
Linux users.
Thirdly - are you being paid by Microsoft or something for that
segment?!? myDOOM would not exist if it were not for the inherent
security holes in MS mail clients. My parents (I am 17 so I am entitled
to live at home) were switched (by me) to using Mozilla Mail - they dont
want to learn linux, so I at least secured them a bit - since then there
has not been a single virus on our PC's. I would of course be stupid
not to admit that we are running virus scanners on their PC's - but the
virus scanner is a free one, who's definitions are not always up to date.
And finaly - RE the SCO claims are totaly un-substanciated, and untill
IBM is found guilty in a court of law, we would like it kept that way -
the nature of SCO's claims are scratchy at best, and I am sure that
should you _RESEARCH_ this issue carefully, you will find that SCO is
clearly in the wrong.
Personaly I find it discusting. If I had names (ie who the 'expert'
(stressing the inverted commas) was) I would not hesitate to contact
them personaly. If you would like me to take it up with them, please
provide me with an email address.
Please attempt to rectify the insult both myself and fellow linux users
are feeling at this point in time, and in future please make sure your
experts comments are thoroughly checked and valid - it is little things
like this that give media a bad name.
