Committee meeting minutes February 2004

   Meeting open: 6:40pm, 2nd February 2004

Present: Chris Deigan, Mary Gardiner (minutes), Jaime Hemmett, Ben Leslie,
   Jan Schmidt (chair), Jamie Wilkinson

   Apologies: Peter Hardy, Michael Kortvelyesy

    1. General business

         1. Direct deposit

Jamie has tested direct deposit into the SLUG bank account and
had difficulty. Jaime warned that iSLUG's account type may not
            allow it.

         2. Video and slides

Benno has some emails containing slides from speakers, Jan needs
to buy more DVDs. Ryan Verner from the linux.conf.au organising
team will supply us with Jan's LCA footage.

         3. Urn

No urn has been purchased yet, we still need somewhere to store
it. Jaime suggested giving a member a car allowance to store SLUG
goods and bring them to meetings.

         4. Xandros review copy

Chris has a copy of Xandros for review purposes. It was suggested
that it could be a prize at a SLUGlet but it was decided that it
should be given to someone at the installfest to review.

         5. Campbell's Cash and Carry Card

CC&C is a wholesaler, a CC&C Card will let us purchase things at
wholesale prices (eg BBQ food for installfests). The fact that
SLUG is a legal entity with a bank account should allow us to get
            a card.

    2. Review of recent events

         1. January monthly meeting

There are some people who'd like a Spice Boys alternative. We
decided to ask the list - if no plausible alternatives are
suggested, then we will continue going to Spice Boys.

We must ring Spice Boys to let them know we're coming.

SLUGlets was very small -- we didn't expect the Red Hat talk to
            be so popular.

    3. Upcoming events

         1. Installfest

The installfest was not well publicised but Jan feels that it's
better to have regular small installfests and build a following
            that way.

There may be a ComputerBank member bringing a BBQ.

         2. February monthly meeting

SLUGlets could be a post-installfest tutorial.

Craige may want to advertise the DebSIG code fest/bug squish

The general talk will be the "Microsoft free" business people,
and the technical talk the cluster talk, if the speakers agree.

         3. Annual General Meeting

The agenda at this stage is:

              1. President's report
              2. Treasurer's report
              3. Election of 2004-2005 committee
         4. March monthly meeting

We discussed getting the AGM over with quickly so that we could
have two full talks sessions, but with the two reports, questions
from the audience and the committee election this is unlikely. So
we'll have the AGM in the first half and a general talk in the
            second half.

The general talk will be Jeff Waugh's talk on the Planet
            aggregator, if he agrees.

   Meeting closed: 7:10pm
