Because that means installing and configuring software such as squid or apache on the gateway, where as if I can do it with iptables that's a whole bunch less configuration I have to do. Also if I can figure this out with IP tables for port 80 then I can get it to work for other protocols such as e-mail.

Thanks for the replies so far, I figure that SNAT is the way to go, hadn't thought of marking the packet though that might be worth trying, was hoping someone on the list might have done this but time to be brave (foolish?) and go where others have yet to tread?
