Hi.

Here's the notes from this evening's sluglets. The night ended up as quite a wide-ranging discussion on the direction we should be taking with future SLUG events. Started with installfests, then went on to possible ways to both lead up to, and follow them up.

Comments on the below is more than welcome. And, as always, none of this is going to happen without some help. If you'd like to contribute in any way, jump on to the activities list (http://lists.slug.org.au/listinfo/activities) and join the discussion. You don't need to be a full-on kernel hacker god-type either! There's quite a bit of preparation that needs to go in to these events, and anybody with a little time and energy to spare is welcome.

There won't be a sluglets next month, due to the SLUG AGM. But it'll be back in April, under new management and even more exciting than ever.

Installfest Review / Issues
===========================

*Earlier preparation
        *Announce around 6 weeks before?
                *Announce on WP Forums "Linux & BSD" forum?
                *SMH?
                *Various upcoming event sections of Newpapersand various
                websites?
                

*More focus on ConfigFests after Installfests
        *Assurance that post installfest support will be available
        tailored to people from the last installfest.
        
*Hand out information sheets with information about post-install stuff
and another advertises getting involved in the SLUG community.

*RSVP style system so we have an idea of what to expect.

*Multiple installfests in smaller time ranges in multiple locations to 
encourage people that can not or is too much effort to travel to a certain
place.

*Small training course following up after installation day

*Should we targeting to universitie students?

*Dodge installing and get straight to training with a LiveCD such as Knoppix?

*Have a standardized distribution like ComputerBank's hacked Debian
install preconfigured unless people specifically ask for a specific
distribution.

*Security is fairly good by default in most distributions.

*Join the activities list!!
