The el-torito stuff is included in the iso image as far as I know. At any rate, I burn these with: cdrecord speed=12 dev=0,0,0 -data [ISO NAME] and I've never had a problem. I don't know cdroast, but it should be a case of just burning the iso directly to the disk. This should solve your other problem also.
