Hi Harald

Yes I had this delay on a RedHat 9 machine running
2.4.x, with a TFT display that connected via a standard
video cable. I put up with this for a while then
upgraded to 2.6.x and the delay disappeared.

The problem I noticed was that X was looking
for a suitable digital display, but could not
find one after some time so settled for standard
video.

There is a setting in X that tells it not to look
for digital displays, I forget what the option was :(

Best bet is to upgrade you kernel to 2.6.x
