I have this on a newly installed debian sarge with a new hard drive (<1 day old). The status/error messages are repeated around 6 times.

hdb: dma_intr: status=0x51 { DriveReady SeekComplete Error }
hdb: dma_intr: error=0x84 { DriveStatusError BadCRC }
ide0: reset: master: error (0x0a?)
hdb: lost interrupt

Reading a 2000 linux kernel thread [1] suggests possibly bad disk or bad memory (i have tested my ram with a bootable memtest86 for 27hrs a week ago).

Also my hard drive light is constantly on, not a full brightness, but on.

I didn't even check for bad blocks when creating the partitions. Doh.
