Looks right. Have you ever tried etherconf:

apt-cache show etherconf

apt-cache show etherconf gives; W: Unable to locate package etherconfig

apt-get install etherconf gives;
something about not being able to fins packe last time I ran it, but now it seems to work... No... I don't think it was because the interface was down, coz I checked it...
Anyway it's installed now... Ran it... configured... rebooted... All is well :-)
