The normal buses from Town Hall/Wynyard are: 288, 290 (via Pacific Highway not freeway) and 292. There are others that run during specific times (289, 291, 293, 294) but that's normally weekday peak hour. Those three buses also depart from Epping Station heading towards Macquarie (and then the city) in the other direction, together with the 295 and 296 which terminate at Macquarie. Macquarie Uni has a list of bus companies that stop there at http://www.timetables.mq.edu.au/ although they seem to have given up maintaining actual route numbers on that site like they used to. Other Sydney Bus routes are the 545 from Chatswood (and from Parramatta/Eastwood in the other direction), and the 506 (I think), 507 and 518 heading up Victoria Road.
