Nicely said Mary...

There is someone working on a post install replacement of the menus and
toolbars to match OpenOffice.org's major competitor.  I have no idea how
far this is though.

The reasons that we do not match:

a)  Some of the decisions of M$ are bad, we can fix them

b)  We could get sued if the interface matched, not worth the risk.

The documented reality is that 90% of the users convert with a barely
noticable blip in productivity.  There are a few that cannot due to
macros, power users or whatever.  Bottom line is that you can simply
migrate the majority and leave the minority on Legacy systems until they
are ready to convert themselves.
