usb webcams are usually cheap nasty pieces of commodity hardware
but if you havent seen your wife/gf/partner/child in like 6 months
theyre heaps better than nothing

if you want serious webconferencing you go for something
firewire based anyway. i would say that isight would be just a
dv device - which are nicely supported in linux. then youll
need some serious bandwidth. but if your just goofing
around on your home lan...
