We've done that. The log showed problems in negotiating a https session - which the DSl guy said was a frequent outcome of packet fragmentation.
The ping showed that 1464 bytes was the critical point. But it also showed that same level on the router that works fine. What we really need to know is how to set the MTU value for the ppp0 interface. With that, we can try different levels and find the largest one that works.
