I'm not sure where to go with this one. The other day apt-get upgraded gdm to 2.4.4.5-1.2 on my Fedora Core 1 box. Previously it was working. I haven't made any changes to gdm since last year.

After a reboot, gdm won't load up anymore. X starts up, the hourglass rotates about a quarter of a turn and it dies. X then restarts, but with just the "X" mouse cursor and thats it. Really, really, really annoying.

I can't find anything in /var/log/XFree86.0.log that's out of the ordinary.

The best I get from /var/log/messages is:

gdm[4194]: Display :0 is busy. There is another X server running already.

Where else should I be looking to track down the problem. Has anyone else had this problem?

Also, if I boot into runlevel 3 and do a startx, it works.
