I have an old laptop, a Toshiba Tecra 740CDT, which I would like to install Linux on. If tried many different distributions, but they can't seem to handle the display/audio hardware properly. The last ones I tried were Mandrake and Libranet, but that was a while back. I've looked at linux-on-laptops.com, but they don't have instructions specific to my model. It is so old it doesn't have USB and can't boot off of a CD. I've recently had the urge to try again. Is SLUG going to have an Installfest sometime, or can someone help me set it up so it's all working properly? And which would be the best distribution to use? A friend of mine who is into Linux says Debian is the best. I've been wanting to get into Linux for years, but have never been able to get an installation working on it properly.
